Try your hand fishing for Salmon or Walleye on the Columbia River. This scenic river
forms the southern Washington-Oregon border and is famed throughout the
Northwest for its sheer volume of water, abundant fish species and the
range of scenery through which it flows. From the infamous mouth of the
river, through verdant flora and fauna, dry deserts, and the majestic
cliffs of the Columbia Gorge. The Columbia River’s scenery alone mark it
as a memorable…and then there’s the fishing!
Walleye, so named for their
eyes which, like those of cats, reflect light, are also renowned
for their flavor. Their eyes also allow them to see well in
turbid waters (stained or rough, breaking waters) which gives
them an advantage over their prey. Thus, walleye anglers will
commonly look for days and locations where there is a good
"walleye chop" (i.e., rough water). This excellent vision also
allows the fish to populate the deeper regions in a lake or
river.
